What is Sugaring?

Sugaring is a natural form of hair removal that dates back to around 1900 BC. Women of ancient Egypt and Greece were inspired by Alexander the Great, who always charged into battle hairless and clean shaven. Over time, being hairless became the gold standard of beauty and was considered sanitary and more youthful. Of course, there were no modern amenities at that time, therefore removing the hair from their bodies helped keep them clean.

Around 1900 BC, the women of Alexandria began using a form of sugar hair removal that was similar to the form we use today. It was believed they made their paste out of a honey mixture known as “Sukkar” or “Agda”. And since honey contains a high sugar content, it was also a great way to inhibit bacterial growth.

Today’s sugar is made out of sugar, water, and lemon. It is heated up to different temperatures to create specific mediums that are used to remove hair on selective parts of the body. Sugaring is a very gentle form of hair removal. It only picks up hair and dead skin cells that are already ready to shed off, therefore it is less likely to cause damage and irritation to the skin. Sugaring works great for people with curly hair, sensitive skin, and in-grown prone skin.

What is a Vagacial?

A vagacial is a skin treatment typically done after a brazilian sugaring. It helps soothe, hydrate, and calm the skin and are customizable to each individual. A typical vagacial consists of a first and second cleanse, toning, steam, light extractions (if needed), and a soothing mask!
